40gsm polyester base fabric. Heavier than the 22gsm version — you feel the difference the moment you pick it up. More body, more substance. Smooth to the touch, not slippery. It's got a natural crispness that holds its shape without being stiff. 63 inches wide, 15 yards per kilo. Not sheer like the ultralight linings — this one covers. If you need a lining that feels like something rather than nothing, this is it.
Polyester, so it's low-maintenance. Won't shrink, won't wrinkle much, won't lose its shape in the wash. Cuts cleanly without fraying, sews without bunching. For linings, interlinings, and embroidery backing that need to survive regular wear and washing, it holds up without complaint. The extra weight over ultralight options gives it better tear resistance and more stability on the cutting table.
Garment linings that need more body than ultralight options. Interlinings for jackets, vests, structured pieces. Embroidery backing where you need stability. Anything that needs a smooth, reliable base fabric that does its job and stays out of the way. If you need something lighter and sheerer, we have 22gsm. If you need heavier, we have 50gsm and above. This one's the middle ground — substantial enough to trust, light enough to disappear inside a garment.
Weight and coverage. The 22gsm is lighter, sheerer, better for delicate linings where you want the fabric to disappear. This 40gsm version has more body — better for structured pieces, jackets, and applications where you need the lining to hold its own shape. Same smooth hand feel, just more of it.
At 40gsm, it gives decent coverage on its own. For most garment linings, it won't show through. If you're using it under a very light or white outer fabric, go with a lighter shade of this fabric to be safe. But for most applications, it covers well without needing an extra layer.
Yes. The extra weight over the 22gsm version gives it more stability on the hoop. Needles pass through smoothly without snagging. For embroidery that needs a sturdier base than ultralight options, this one works well. Tears away clean after stitching.
If you've ordered our 40D polyester base fabric previously, this is the same specification — 40gsm, 63 inches wide, 100% polyester. Same smooth hand, same natural body. Batch to batch, we keep the weight and feel consistent.
It's fine for indoor garments and standard linings. It's not specifically designed for prolonged outdoor exposure — no UV protection, no water resistance treatment. For outdoor gear and technical applications, we have heavier and more specialized fabrics in our range.
No. Our fabrics are designed and produced for apparel, linings, interlinings, embroidery backing, and craft uses. We do not currently manufacture or supply fabrics for medical, filtration, or industrial applications. If you need medical-grade textiles, we recommend consulting a specialist supplier.
