Weight and feel. The 110gsm version is heavier, with more body and 8% spandex — better for pieces that need a bit more structure. This 85gsm version is lighter, softer, and airier with 6% spandex — better for pieces that need to feel weightless and breathable. Same nylon softness, different weight class. If the 110gsm felt a touch too heavy or dense for your project, this 85gsm is the lighter alternative.
2 How is this different from your 90gsm polyester spandex diamond mesh?
Fiber and pattern. The 90gsm diamond mesh is polyester with a decorative diamond pattern — crispier, more structured, with a visible geometric design. This 85gsm nylon mesh is softer, smoother, and has a standard mesh structure without the diamond pattern. Both are lightweight with spandex. Pick diamond mesh for a decorative, structured look. Pick this nylon mesh for a softer, more comfortable feel against the skin.
3 6% spandex — how much stretch does it actually have?
Just a gentle flex. 6% spandex gives a subtle give — it moves with the body without any tightness or restriction. It's not compression. It's not performance stretch. It's the kind of stretch you want in a breathable summer piece or a lightweight lining: barely there, just enough to be comfortable. If you need strong four-way stretch, we have options with 15-40% spandex.
4 Is this see-through? Do I need a lining?
It's an open mesh — by nature, it's breathable and semi-sheer. For fashion overlays and ventilation panels, the transparency is part of the design. For linings, it provides a soft, breathable inner layer without adding bulk. If you're using it as a main fabric for a garment, consider the design and color — darker colors provide more coverage. If you need full opacity, a lining or underlayer may be needed.
5 Can I use this for swimwear?
It has stretch and nylon content, but it's not specifically designed for prolonged chlorine or saltwater exposure like our dedicated swimwear fabrics. For occasional water use, it'll hold up. For competitive or frequent pool use, we recommend our swimwear-specific options with chlorine resistance built in.
6 Is this fabric suitable for medical or healthcare applications?
