85gsm Nylon Spandex High-Stretch Mesh — 28% Elastane | Lightweight Compression | Activewear and Shapewear | 55"

85gsm nylon spandex high-stretch power mesh. 28% elastane — near the top end for lightweight stretch fabrics. Strong, responsive compression that snaps right back. Not the gentle flex of our 6% spandex version at the same weight — this one grips. 140cm wide, 8 yards per kilo. Use it for high-elasticity yoga wear, sports bras, compression shapewear, and cycling gear. Light, tight, and built to hold you in.

How does it feel?

85gsm nylon spandex high-stretch power mesh. Don't let the lightweight fool you — 28% elastane means this fabric is seriously strong. You pull it and it snaps back with real authority. It grips. It holds. But it does it all while staying light and breathable. Nylon gives it that smooth, cool-to-the-touch feel. At 85gsm, it's airy and barely there, yet the compression is firm and locked-in. 140cm wide, 8 yards per kilo. If you've used our 6% spandex version at the same weight and found it too relaxed, this is the upgrade — same weight, completely different personality. Light enough to breathe, tight enough to sculpt.

Is it tough? Does it last?

28% spandex with a nylon base means serious recovery. It won't bag out after a few wears. Won't sag. Won't lose its snap. Nylon resists abrasion and holds its shape. The compression stays locked in wash after wash. For high-elasticity activewear, sports bras, and compression pieces that get worn hard and washed often, it goes the distance. This is the fabric equivalent of a firm, confident hold — it means business and keeps meaning it.

What can I make with it?

High-elasticity yoga wear and Pilates pieces. Sports bras that hold without feeling heavy. Compression shapewear and body sculpting garments. Cycling gear. Performance base layers. Any garment that needs powerful stretch and recovery in a lightweight package. If you need maximum compression for heavy-duty shapewear, our 145gsm compression mesh with 39% spandex is the next step up. If you want a gentler stretch at the same weight, our 85gsm with 6% spandex is the relaxed alternative. This one's for when you want lightweight with serious hold — tight enough to perform, light enough to forget you're wearing it.

FAQ

1 28% spandex at only 85gsm — how does that even work?

It works beautifully. The lightweight 85gsm body keeps it breathable and airy, while the 28% spandex delivers powerful compression and recovery. It's the best of both worlds — the hold of a heavier fabric with the lightness of a featherweight. If you've used heavier compression meshes and wanted something with the same power but less weight, this is exactly what you're looking for.

2 How is this different from your 85gsm nylon mesh with 6% spandex?

Same weight, completely different personality. The 6% spandex version is gentle and relaxed — a soft flex for casual wear. This 28% spandex version is firm and locked-in — powerful compression for performance. Think of the 6% as a comfortable hug. Think of this 28% as a confident grip. Same number on the scale, different experience on the body.

3 How is this different from your 145gsm compression mesh with 39% spandex?

Weight and intensity. The 145gsm mesh is heavier, denser, and has even more spandex — built for maximum compression shapewear and heavy-duty support. This 85gsm mesh is lighter, more breathable, and has slightly less spandex — built for high-performance activewear and lightweight compression. If the 145gsm feels like overkill for your project, this 85gsm is the lighter but still powerful alternative.

4 Will 28% spandex bag out or lose its shape?

No. The nylon-spandex blend is engineered so that the high elastane content works with the nylon base to deliver extreme stretch without losing recovery. It's not the kind of fabric that goes limp after a few wears. Normal wear, normal washing, and the compression stays locked in.

5 Is this see-through? Do I need a lining?

At 85gsm, it's lightweight and breathable. For most activewear and compression pieces, it provides good coverage. If you're making something in a very light color and want extra security, a lining is always a good backup. For darker colors, it covers well without needing anything underneath.

6 140cm wide — is that narrower than your other fabrics?

Yes, 140cm is narrower than our standard 150-160cm fabrics. This is specific to the 22140 construction. For most activewear and compression pieces, the width is workable — you'll just want to plan your cutting layout accordingly. The high spandex content also means the fabric can be stretched during cutting to optimize usage.

7 Can I use this for swimwear?

It has stretch and nylon content, but it's not specifically designed for prolonged chlorine or saltwater exposure like our dedicated swimwear fabrics. For occasional water use, it'll hold up. For competitive or frequent pool use, we recommend our swimwear-specific options with chlorine resistance built in.

8 Is this fabric suitable for medical or healthcare applications?

No. Our fabrics are designed and produced for activewear, shapewear, sportswear, and related uses. We do not currently manufacture or supply fabrics for medical, filtration, or industrial applications. If you need medical-grade textiles, we recommend consulting a specialist supplier.
