How does it feel?

30gsm nylon multifilament plain weave, 20D ultra-fine yarn. Light — you pick it up and barely feel the weight. But there's a bit more body here than our 17gsm version. Not much, just enough to make it easier to handle on the cutting table. The multifilament yarn is the real story — multiple ultra-fine nylon strands twisted together into each thread. The result? It feels almost silky. Smooth against the skin. No scratchiness at all. It drapes beautifully and moves with the body. 160cm wide, 21 yards per kilo. If you've handled standard monofilament plain weaves and found them too crisp or rough, this is the softer alternative. Light as a whisper, smooth as silk.

Is it tough? Does it last?

It's 30gsm — let's be real, it's not built for heavy use. But the multifilament structure gives it more tensile strength than you'd expect at this weight. Nylon has natural give, so it doesn't shatter the moment you pull it. Handle it with a light touch when cutting and sewing. Once it's in place as a lining or base layer, it holds up fine through regular wear and washing. Won't shrink, won't wrinkle much, comes out of the wash looking the same. Not for pieces that need to hold heavy structure. This one's for floating softly, not fighting.

If you want soft and silky against the skin, go multifilament. If you want firm and structured, go monofilament.

Weight and body. The 17gsm version is lighter, sheerer, and more delicate — better for the lightest linings and veils. This 30gsm version is a step up — more body, more substance, easier to handle on the cutting table. Same silky multifilament hand feel, just with a bit more weight behind it. If the 17gsm felt a touch too light for your project, this 30gsm is the natural next step.

Q33. 30gsm — how do you handle something this light?

Easier than you'd expect. The multifilament structure gives it a bit more stability than standard plain weaves at this weight. Nylon has more give than polyester, so it doesn't slip and slide as much. Lay it flat when cutting — don't stretch it out. Use tissue paper under the fabric when sewing delicate seams — it stabilizes the fabric and tears away clean when you're done. Once you get used to the weight, it handles like any lightweight fabric.

Q44. Is this see-through? Do I need a lining?

At 30gsm, it's semi-sheer — lighter than opaque but not as transparent as the 17gsm version. It's designed primarily for linings and base layers, so the sheerness is part of the design. For most garment linings and base layers, it provides a smooth, lightweight inner layer without adding bulk. If you're using it as a main fabric for a garment, you'll likely want an underlayer depending on the design and color.

Q55. How is this different from your 10D nylon single-face plain weave (18gsm)?

Yarn size and structure. The 10D 18gsm version uses an even finer yarn with a single-face construction — one side smooth, one side textured. This 20D 30gsm version uses a slightly thicker yarn with a standard plain weave and multifilament structure. The 10D is lighter and sheerer. This 20D has more body and a silkier hand feel from the multifilament yarns. Both are soft and lightweight. Pick 10D for the absolute lightest feel. Pick 20D multifilament for a bit more substance and the smoothest hand feel.

Q66. Can I use this for sun protection clothing?

Yes, it's a good choice for lightweight sun protection pieces. The tight plain weave provides a physical barrier against UV rays while staying breathable and cool against the skin. For enhanced UV protection, a UV-blocking finish can be applied. Contact us to discuss functional finishing options.

No elastane, but the nylon knit structure gives it a slight natural mechanical give — it flexes a little with the body without losing its shape.
