Structure and feel. The 20gsm double-thread mesh has two yarns woven side by side — it's built for backbone and shape retention. This 18gsm multifilament reinforced mesh is softer, drapier, and less structured. Both are lightweight nylon options. Pick double-thread for structure and volume. Pick multifilament for softness and fluidity.

5. 18gsm — how do you handle something this light?

Gently, but the reinforced weave gives it a bit more stability than standard soft mesh. Nylon has more give than polyester, so it doesn't slip and slide as much. Lay it flat when cutting — don't stretch it out. Use tissue paper under the fabric when sewing delicate seams — it stabilizes the fabric and tears away clean when you're done. The soft hand actually helps — it stays where you put it instead of fighting you. Once you get used to the weight, it handles fine.

6. Is this see-through? Do I need a lining?

Not ideal. This multifilament mesh is soft and flowy — it doesn't have the structural backbone needed for a pettiskirt that needs to hold volume. For pettiskirts and gown support, our double-thread American mesh or stiff square mesh are much better choices. This one's for veils, soft overlays, and delicate linings — pieces that need to flow, not stand up.
