1. 17gsm — how do you handle something this light?
Gently, but it's not as scary as it sounds. The polyester construction gives it a bit more stability than nylon mesh at the same weight — less slipping, less sliding. Lay it flat when cutting. Don't yank it through the machine. Use tissue paper under the fabric when sewing — it stabilizes the fabric and tears away clean when you're done. Once you get used to the weight, it handles fine.
2. How is this different from your nylon Swiss tulle?
Fiber and hand feel. Our nylon Swiss tulle at 23gsm is softer and drapier, with a subtle natural sheen. This polyester 6415 mesh at 17gsm is lighter, crispier, and fully matte — it holds a crease better and resists wrinkles. If you want soft and flowy, go nylon. If you want lightweight, crisp, and structured, go polyester.
3. Is this see-through? Do I need a lining?
It's extremely sheer — at 17gsm, that's the point. It's made for layering, not for full coverage on its own. Use it as a veil, an overlay, or a delicate wrap. If you're making a garment with this as the main fabric, you'll definitely want something underneath.
4. What's the difference between this and your 13gsm sparkle American mesh?
Weight and finish. The 13gsm sparkle mesh is lighter and has metallic sparkle woven into the yarn. This 17gsm 6415 mesh is plain matte — no sparkle, no shine — and has a slightly heavier, more stable feel. If you want sparkle, go 13gsm. If you want clean, crisp matte with a bit more body, go 17gsm.
5. Can this be used outdoors? Will the wind destroy it?
It handles light breezes fine. It still billows beautifully, which is part of the look for veils and draping. For outdoor ceremonies with mild weather, it's fine. For heavy wind, go with something heavier like our 28gsm or 32gsm mesh.
6. Is this the same as your other 6415 specification meshes?
The 6415 designation refers to the specific weave construction. If you've used other 6415 meshes in our range, you'll recognize the same stable, fine weave — just in a lighter 17gsm weight. Same structure, different weight class.
7. Is this fabric suitable for medical or healthcare applications?
