This week we spent time in the sample room with three of our lightest fabrics — a 20gsm nylon diamond mesh, a 31gsm polyester base lining, and a 32gsm polyester base fabric. Here's what we found, unfiltered.

20gsm Nylon Diamond Mesh — The Cloud

This one surprised us. At just 20gsm, it's almost weightless. The nylon fibers give it a slick, cool hand feel — no scratchiness, no prickly edges. The diamond grid pattern is visible but barely detectable to the touch. It drapes like a cloud. With 31 yards per kilo, the economics are just as impressive as the softness.

At 31gsm, this fabric yields 20 yards per kilo. It's pure polyester, smooth and even, with just enough structure to stabilize a garment without adding any noticeable bulk. It holds its shape and cuts cleanly. For lightweight interlining and pocketing, it does the job and stays out of the way.

32gsm Polyester Base Fabric — The Workhorse

Slightly heavier at 32gsm with 19 yards per kilo, this one feels crisp and cool. It resists tearing, bounces back after scrunching, and won't sag or distort over time. Our customers use it for everything from wedding dress linings to dust covers — anywhere lightweight durability is the brief.

About Our Sample Room

Every fabric we list goes through a hands-on check before it reaches the catalog. Our sample room in Fujian handles dozens of swatches each month. We pull them, scrunch them, wash them, and compare them batch to batch. When a fabric makes it onto our product pages, it's because someone here has already put their hands on it.
