How does it feel?

185gsm polyester spandex butterfly mesh in lavender. The butterfly weave gives it an open, textured surface — not a solid fabric, but a structured net with a soft drape. At 185gsm it has more body than lightweight mesh but still breathes freely. The hand feel is soft with a slight textured dryness from the polyester fibers. The 4.5% spandex gives it a gentle give — enough for comfort and recovery, but not a high-stretch fabric. It drapes well and holds its shape without being stiff.

Is it tough? Does it last?

It holds up well for its type. The 20D polyester yarn gives it good tensile strength for an open mesh fabric. Won't shrink more than 2-3% on first wash. The color — this lavender — is stable and resists fading with proper care. The butterfly structure is dimensionally stable: it won't stretch out of shape over time. Not built for heavy abrasion, but for apparel overlays, dancewear, and decorative use, it performs well.

What can I make with it?

Sportswear overlays — breathable mesh panels on jerseys, shorts, and training tops. The lavender color works well for activewear brands that want something beyond basic black and white.

Dancewear and costume — leotards, skirts, bodysuits. The butterfly netting has a visual texture that reads well on stage. Lavender is a popular color for competition dancewear.

Apparel lining and decoration — used as a decorative overlay on sleeves, backs, and necklines. Adds texture and depth to garments.

Athletic apparel — breathable inserts in sports bras, tank tops, and training gear where airflow is needed.

Fashion and streetwear — sheer overlays on tops and dresses. The butterfly texture adds visual interest without adding weight.

Craft and trim — decorative netting for accessories, bags, and embellishments.

FAQ

1. What is butterfly mesh fabric?

Butterfly mesh is a type of open-weave netting fabric with a textured, patterned structure — the openings often resemble butterfly shapes in their layout. It's made with fine yarns (20D in this case) to create a lightweight, breathable fabric with visual depth. Unlike basic hexagonal mesh or plain netting, butterfly mesh has a more decorative, patterned appearance.

2. Is this fabric stretchy? Does it have spandex for recovery?

It has 4.5% spandex content, which gives it a gentle stretch and helps it recover its shape after wear. It's not a high-stretch fabric like our swimwear knits (which have 8-13% spandex). Think of it as a fabric with comfortable give rather than compressive stretch. It moves with the body and bounces back, but won't provide firm support.

3. Is this fabric see-through?

Yes — it's an open mesh fabric. The butterfly weave has visible openings that allow light and air to pass through. It's designed as an overlay, insert, or decorative layer. If you need it as a main fabric, you'll want to line it or layer it over a solid base.

4. What's the MOQ? Can I get a sample in lavender first?

MOQ is 500 yards per color for stock colors. Yes — if lavender is a stock color, it's available at that minimum. Samples are free (you cover shipping). We ship swatches within 24 hours of your request so you can see the lavender color and feel the butterfly texture before ordering.

5. What colors are available besides lavender?

We stock this product in 15+ standard colors. Lavender is one of the color options. We also carry white, black, navy, and other popular shades. For larger runs, custom dyeing is available at 500 yards per color minimum.
